Retreat Yourself! Southern Spain September, 2018

                                                               September 16-23, 2018

In the southernmost region of Spain lies UNESCO-protected Grazalema Nature Reserve, home to 5,000-year-old ruins, wild goats, carob trees, and the setting for our latest Big Rock Yoga retreat with Big Rock's founder Wendy Cook. Together, we will embark on a  soulful adventure through Andalusia, “the land of light,” in pursuit of that which connects us to our natural rhythm. Wendy will lead us through daily practices and workshops steeped in yogic wisdom with the intention to bring awareness to each individuals natural rhythms. We will "give light" to the deep intuition of the body and build better habits for daily living.

**Special dietary restrictions can be accommodated if notified 45 days in advance. Optional additional activities are not included in retreat price, and will incur additional costs.

Three whitewashed villages serve as gateways to our yoga retreat center. Zahara de la Sierra is one of Andalusia’s most striking villages, sashaying up a craggy, castle-topped peak in the park’s northern reaches and just 30 minutes away by car. The second, El Gastor, also known as the Balcony of the Andalusian White Villages, is a charming small town, just fifteen minutes from our retreat center by foot. The third, Ronda, sits atop the spectacular El Tajo gorge and is the largest of Andalusia’s towns. Modern bullfighting was practically invented here in the late 18th century, and the town’s fame was spread further by American literary figures Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles who spent much time within the town limits of Ronda and southern Spain.

The retreat center itself, sits within Grazalema National Park, at the base of great buttresses of rock silhouetted against the clouds and soaring above a forested landscape tinged with greens, yellows, and deep rusty reds.

On retreat, we will offer yoga and meditation classes daily. Wendy’s gounded, soulful teaching is filled with inspiration, education, empowerment, and an overwhelming sense of passion. Her vinyasa classes are a fusion of form and flow that will connect you to the source deep within you. All experience levels are welcome to join, and all yoga and meditation classes are completely optional. Wendy is a very skillful teacher with the ability to meet you where you are, allowing you to be seen, and bringing you into the collective energy and flow of the group.

Our meals will be prepared in-house by our resident chef, and served family style. The retreat center offers bright, nutritious vegetarian meals full of local produce and mediterranean specialties. While all meals are provided, there will also be opportunity to dine out and experience the local food scene if you’d like. All rooms are outfitted with a mini fridge and most have a kitchenette for those that wish to pick up additional snacks and refreshments in town.

Our accommodations are comprised of a series of traditional Andalusian farmhouses, nestled in the heart of the nature reserve, and surrounded by olive and carob trees. The main farmhouse consists of two bedrooms with twin beds and four bedrooms with double beds. These are available on a "first paid in full" first serve. The property is complete with a beautiful yoga studio, private tennis court, and magnificent hiking trails. A variety of homes and apartments are available with access to beautiful pools, modern kitchens and baths. Private and shared occupancy available at varying prices.
